Gandhi and the Godfather: part one.

Yo surf babies,

Life update:

I had my first Guinness beer last night. Yumnn.

Any-who, today's topic is: self esteem.

I haven't met a single person who hasn't struggled with self esteem at one time or another.
From what I've found, it's all about your state of mind, your attitude. You can be the fiercest, meanest sister out there if you simply think you are.
You can also be the most unworthy, stupid, useless stain out there too if you think you are.

When I've felt like the latter, it's because I'm under the influence of others.

Don't let people on the outside control or influence you.

Are you a bad mammajamma?

I am constantly living on two edges: Gandhi mentality and Godfather mentality.
Trust vs. Distrust
Non violence vs. Violence
Inclusive world view vs. Singular Survivalist view

Life has made me distrustful of everyone I encounter but it's a survival and coping tactic.

So what do you think:

(QUESTION OF THE DAY)

Gandhi or the Godfather (perhaps Scarface is more appropriate) mentality? Can you have both?

Crazy Heart = Crazy Good

Wow. I am in LOVE with this movie. I just saw it last night and am planning my second viewing already for possibly Monday if anyone wants to join me (tickets are only $5 so, cheap is the word)
The acting was beyond beyond beyond superb, the colors were beautiful and right on in terms of character definition/description, and the writing was just fabulous.
It's one of those movies where I forgot I was watching a movie with actors and scripts and cameras, etc. and just was immersed in the story because the acting was phenomenal and everything just was so organic and believable.

I miss the characters! I want them to be real!!

How interesting that the same week that I make the decision to move down to New Mexico (once the chips have all been saved up by December) I go and see a movie that takes place in the same state. It was so beautiful to see on screen and all I heard was "yes, you're making the right decision to move here."

"This ain't no place for the weary kind. This ain't no place to lose your mind. This ain't no place to fall behind. Pick up your crazy heart and give it one more try."

Fruit: the other, other white meat?

Dear Ones,

Two posts in one day? Holy moley! Somebody stop her!
Actually, I'm just a little bored/energized/my other post today only counts as half since it was incredibly short.
I've been getting into shape this past week and fruit has become a large staple in my diet once again.
Something I've been surprised at is my new found love of coconut ( Crazy, I know, but please refrain from telling your neighbors and friends of this important development...I'm trying to stay low-key ) But as I watched Desperate Housewives with my ma tonight, I saw a commercial for coconut m&ms and I'm pretty sure my heart stopped.
My mother was less than impressed as she let out a cold, "eww."
More for me.

Anyhow, my question of the day pertains to fruit.

QUESTION OF THE DAY:

Do you love any fruit that you previously hated?

and

Do you have any guilty fruit pleasures? (friends have made snobbish and/or horrified faces at me for loving grapefruit )

OBSESSIONS:

-1- Coconut
-2- Hair, minus the straightener (I'm pretty sure it thanks me at night for not burning it to oblivion lately)
-3- the band, Phoenix

Wait a minute - that's not fruit...

That's not fruit either, hey...

Go Getter

Dears,

I know exactly what I want and I'm going to get it!
